Strange ?!?

Postby TAPA » 08-28-2004 07:14 AM

I was working with the def files today, and by mistake i deleted the weapon.def from the pff, and had forgot to replace it again, and to my supprise the game still worked fine, everything as normal !

So i was wondering dose the game not read from the def anymore ? And how the hell did i not get a system dump or some error message ?

This is for joint ops btw

you either deleted the weapon.def from the mod tools or if you have team sabre you deleted the weapon.def from the localres.pff. if you have team sabre BHD will read the weapon.def from the exp1.pff instead of localres.pff.

I was talking about Joint Operations ;)

I was messing about with the def files, deleted the one's i was messing around with, and forgot to put the originals back in place !

I started up the game again, and was playing away for a few hours, then decided i would try adding new weapon to the game etc, and i noticed i never had a ammo.def or a weapon.def ! So thing is i was playing multiplayer without having the *.def file in the pff folder!

So i was wondering dose anyone know, if joint ops still reads from the def files, or what ? If they dont read from the def, how are we ment to make a mod for the game ?

Hmm... i actually have run into a similar problem. I have replaced a .dds (skin file) in resource.pff but the game automatically replaced the original. I belive JO uses .def files, but i think the game had a backup and replaced the old one.

P.S. Joint Ops uses PunkBuster, that could also be the culprit ;)

Just a tought. If you delete files from PFF, they are not actualy deleted, only marked. So its maybe JO not checking if the file is marked as deleted, and reads it anyway.
