yah DXT5 is what novalogic based their textures on, its the first generation of hi-res textures used in gaming. thats how they got huge multiplayer games to work out before competition...

if you are looking to convert a file type to DDS the best way for me before I had a photoshop plugin was the DDS converter, found here:

http://eliteforce2.filefront.com/file/DDS_Converter;29412

works like a charm... it can also be used for a number of other things. BMP to PNG. DDS to PNG. DDS to JPG. The list goes on. Basically, there's a number of different file types you can open and convert them too.

Much more simple to use than DXT5 for me. I still don't know how that program works to this very day.

in photoshop, you choose "SaveAs" then where the save dialog box says the filetypes you chose .dds, that will bring up the nvidia options in my screenshots.

i dont do my skins that way, i use software specificly designed for .dds packaging,

i use Nvidia plug in to fade mip maps and x-sharpen, then i use other software to do alpha channels and final packaging...
