cool beans... my next thought is, should I wait and buy the card later and hope the price comes down - or should I buy it while I know I can get it for $200? I know the same cards still sell for about $400 at some places.

and I just saw - it's gotten pushed back to Q1 2007. That's not cool, I thought ET:QW was coming Q4 this year. :(

Yes it's been pushed back- BUT I think it's quite an ambitious game that will be released when its build is as stable as possible- hopefully having a longer playtest period than BF2 did b4 release. (I know there are some gameplay features that they're working on- and I just hope that they think about co-op while they're at it despite stating that they won't have AI - it'd need to be too complex for many entities to work - remember- this game is all about objectives-based gameplay (take the bridge, destroy missile station, recover intel etc) and scripting AI to respond appropriately and work as an effective and believable opposing team would make the game chug along . (I would settle for some scripted AI along the lines of D3/Q4- and let the modders create co-op gameplay)

whoa you find the coolest sites. this coupled with that "see how fast a game will run on your machine" link make me wonder how you do it, lol. :D

hmm... judging by times the 9800 Pro 128mb and X800 Pro 256mb were released, it theoretically shouldn't be that big of an upgrade - only half a year of advancement. maybe I should keep waiting.... but I've gotten wayyyy off topic so sorry for that :(

...as a follow-up to this, I've seen some vids -there's a new one showing off the power of NVidia's latest creation:

http://totalqw.filecloud.com/files/file.php?user_file_id=300458

It clearly ticks all the boxes- class-based system, large outdoor environments- with snow/fog/rain etc, just about every type of vehicle coding you might want to work on, objectives based gameplay and the promise of a hefty SDK from id.

On a negative note, there's no AI in the game, so no go with co-op! Hrrrrumph!

OK- an update from a recent hands on by Computer & Video Games:

[B]Having arrived with the preconception that I'd be playing a game not entirely unlike BF2142, I've been well and truly proven wrong. Every map tells a story, featuring progression, changing objectives and moving frontlines. It adds several more layers of depth to an increasingly rich universe, and it's the by-product of a holy union between
Splash Damage, those connoisseurs of multiplayer gaming, and the legendary id.

What's more, it's stunningly beautiful to boot. Not only is Quake Wars a huge technical achievement, but it looks set to be one of the most refined, polished and successful online shooters the PC has ever seen. Be excited.

I AM excited!
