Need a bit of help..

Postby Eagle Eye » 10-25-2007 01:27 AM

Using the files that LoA posted, I have imported the Chinook into max..

I fixed all the things I needed to, like some names, and the polys that needed to be flipped..

I have the model in the game (DFX), with the pilot on the right side, and the contra-rotating props to the correct rotation..

I pulled the AChkHull.mdt from my extracted files, renamed it to a tga, and decompressed it, then renamed back to an mdt, so I have the bump map to use in the SOeD..also put in the dds files, so the SOeD won't screw up the textures as it does if only the tga's are present..

Works great in game, and looks pretty good, but, the original is a lot smoother than mine..

Can anyone give me a few tips? Is it in the SOed, or something I need to do in max before I export?

Maybe I'm not using the MDT correctly..!?!

Here's some pics for comparison..

Just a guess?... it looks like the model needs to have a smooth modifier.

Here's our Sig 552 with and without the smooth modifier:

You might have to play around with it. Decide which polys are going to be smoothed, select and detach them - this will ensure the polys you want to look flat stay flat - then choose smooth from the modifier list. You'll have a few options to play with.

Before you attach your smoothed polys to the rest of the model you'll need to collapse the smooth modifier in the stack first.

Hope this helps.

Ahh..was just playing with that, but it smoothed the whole helo..well, the 01_ I was playing with, so I ended up with a huge poly count, looked good in the game though..LOL..

Never thought to detach the few I need to smooth..will have a play mate..

Thanks..

dont use turbo smooth,,,,,,,,

use "smooth" this applies the shaders to the model, making something appear smooth even when its 8 sided
