In max Select your object then hit "M" (shortcut for Material) Then go to maps then Bitmap and select your material. Then go to the small tabs under the round ball things which show the materials and hit assign to selection. It should work from there... no time to explain in pure detail but Somone else may beable to upload a picture or somthing to help you out.

Yeah- i'm new to MAX too (I learned a few things in Milkshape then a load more in XSI).
I've surfed for really good MAX tuts, but like anything in life, you get what you pay for. For a relatively small outlay, you can purchase really good tuts, especially the ones by Kurt at
http://www.simplymax.com/

There are some free ones as well, but it'll be a slow d/load to non-members tho.

Do check it out...

when i tried learning php, i found oodles of tuts online but they had no structure and only taught random parts of the language. i ended up buying a book because i couldnt find a website that startted with basics, then went on to more advanced things.

i might just buy a book on max..the only reason i havnt yet is because their so expensive around here.
